An automatic swing gate is a swing gate fitted with motors and control systems so it opens and closes automatically by keypad, remote or sensor, giving property owners, facility managers and security professionals a secure, convenient entrance solution for domestic or commercial sites. Ursa produces a wide range of security gates, manufactured from fully welded mild steel and available in single, double-leaf and bi-fold versions, with manual or automatic operation, in sizes up to 14m clear width and 3m in height.

Our gates are available with a range of infill options and can be constructed from materials such as aluminium, iron, or wood, in addition to standard vertical bar, solid steel, timber, and decorative steel designs. We tailor each gate to your specific needs or to match existing fences or gates, helping you achieve a balance between aesthetic appeal and effective security for your entrance.

Choose between many finish colours to suit your on-site requirements, including Black, Gentian Blue and Moss Green. Solid or less open infill can also improve privacy by blocking views into the property.

Manually operated gates are fitted with drop bolts and slip latch locking facilities as standard. Alternate locking systems may be specified, including fire escape or DDA-compliant access systems. A closed gate also acts as a visible deterrent to unauthorised access, and overall security depends on the gate material and locking mechanism as well as the automation.

Automatic gates are fitted with either underground operators or our UR600 above-ground operators depending on the size and specification of the gates. Underground operators help preserve the gate’s appearance because the operator is hidden from view. All our automatic gates are equipped with Category 3 safety edges and dual Photocells as standard to ensure compliance with all current safety legislation. For smaller gates, hydraulic rams can also be fitted.

All gates are compatible with various access control systems and undergo comprehensive factory testing to guarantee quick installation and dependable performance. Installation should also allow for suitable posts and hinge supports, including a minimum post height of 190 cm where required by the specification.

Different Types of Swing Gates

Single Swing Gates

A single panel pivots on one side, providing a straightforward solution for securing entrances. This configuration is suitable for narrow openings where available space and flat clearance allow the leaf to open properly, making it a common choice for residential driveways and pedestrian entrances.

Double Swing Gates

Two panels pivot outward from the centre, offering a wider opening, and depending on the operator and site layout, they typically open to around 90° to 110°. Bi-fold Swing Gates

Multiple panels fold in on themselves, offering a compact footprint when opening and closing. This design is particularly beneficial for areas with limited space or where traditional gates may obstruct pedestrian or vehicle traffic, though you should still assess site clearance and terrain around the opening area before installation, since swing gates require significant flat clearance to open properly.

Automated Swing Gates

As an electric gate and gate automation solution, an automatic swing gate uses a motor and control system to open and close with minimal effort. They operate through user input or detection, with activation via remote controls, keypads, and sensors for residential or commercial access. When choosing electric gate openers, key factors include leaf size, dimensions, and weight; swing gate operators must suit the gate properly, and heavier materials need a stronger operator. Most systems use 230V or 24V automation, with electric gate kits also available in solar-powered formats and with backup-power options depending on the project.
